Early Days: Tinkering and Minecraft

Hey everyone! Since I was a kid, I’ve been obsessed with taking things apart and putting them back together, especially anything tech-related. Growing up without a lot of money meant I became a master of Frankensteinian computer repair, cobbling together working machines from spare parts. That early tinkering ignited a lifelong passion for all things digital.

My real coding journey started with Minecraft. Remember when it first came out? I was hanging out on a Java gaming forum, and the creator actually let us try a super early, barebones version he’d coded that night. We were blown away by the ability to build in a 3D world. Then we discovered plugins… and that’s when I was truly hooked.

Diving Deeper: From Java to C#

I dove into Java and Eclipse, messing around with those plugins. Then I got into running Minecraft servers, which actually took off pretty well for a while. Later, I switched to NetBeans IDE because of its built-in JavaFX support, which made creating moving 2D graphics a breeze. I even built a few simple tilemap-style games. I’m particularly proud of one little platformer I made… maybe I’ll share some screenshots sometime!

After a few months with the Minecraft server scene, I started exploring Unity Engine and C#. I built a few things, and my first 3D game, “Pillage,” was born. It was a space game with randomly generated “hallways” (for lack of a better description). I envisioned it as a tower defense game, but like many projects, as I built it, I learned so much that I eventually had to start fresh with a new project. Sound familiar to anyone? It taught me a lot about game design and the importance of planning.

The Spark: Why SuDev Hosting?

These days, I spend most of my free time coding and building apps just for the fun of it. It’s like a puzzle, figuring out how to make technology bend to my will. You could call me a “good” hacker – I love the challenge.

But my day job is a world away from the digital realm. I work for the IATSE Union, and the work can be… unpredictable. That’s what sparked the idea for SuDev Hosting. I wanted to build something of my own, generate some residual income, and maybe, just maybe, turn this passion project into a full-time gig. I’m tired of the feast-or-famine cycle and crave the stability of running my own business.

The SuDev Dream: Future Plans

My big dream for SuDev Hosting? To become a recognized name in the web hosting world. I’m not just looking to provide hosting; I want to build a community. I’m planning to expand into domain name sales soon, and I’ve got my sights set on the game server hosting market – I’m determined to find a way to shake things up and offer something truly unique. I’m thinking about specialized game server packages with pre-installed mods and tools to make setup a breeze.

Ready to Host: What’s Next?

I’m incredibly excited to announce that SuDev Hosting is officially ready to host clients! We offer shared hosting plans perfect for individuals, bloggers, and small businesses looking for affordable and reliable web hosting. Our servers are optimized for performance, and we offer 24/7 support to help you with any issues you might encounter.

I’m still working on speeding up my server spin-up process. There’s software that can automate that, but it’s incredibly expensive, and the only real benefit I’d get is automated server spin-up and shutdown, which isn’t worth the price tag right now. While it’s not fully automated yet, I’m actively exploring more cost-effective solutions and can assure you that it doesn’t significantly impact performance. We prioritize quick setup for all our clients.
